At the Alberta School Board Association conference in Red Deer the yesterday we heard from former Alberta Privacy Commissioner Frank Work that we have become a very harsh society looking for mistakes that we can pounce on. This video is an example of a school that turns this 180 degrees by focusing on empathy. They use 5 key habits of mind to direct their approach. Banff Elementary School is already well on this path of using habits of mind to develop empathetic 21st century learners. This fits very well with the Canadian Rockies Public Schools model of Whole Child education developed through the Inspiring Hearts and Minds process. The 13 key directions guide our work and are now in various stages of implementation.
